Sketchbook Page: Birds, Bricks & Bakery Boy

SketchbookPage_20131209_chicksOn a whim I purchased a small sketchbook (5″ x 7″ Daler-Rowney Cachet Classic). Normally I use 9″ x 12″ or larger. However I’m glad I did not resist that whim because the change in page size has been liberating.

SketchbookPage_20131207_birdsWith a smaller page, I’m less inclined to be seduced by too much detail too soon.  Each sketch requires far fewer strokes so I’m doing many more sketches. More of the sketches are scenes rather than a single character or object. In addition, I complete my sketches entirely in ink rather than inking over penciled lines — no safety net! The images accompanying this post are a sample of the results:
